2000 ANNUAL REPORT

The year 2000 turned out to be another banner year for our ever-growing children’s charity. During the 2000 year, the organization continued to meet and surpass our expectations. The most prevalent and noticeable growth included the participation of new companies, the ever-growing number of new and past volunteers, the addition of two more part time staff members and the expansion of and inclusion of new board members that joined our efforts. In addition, the charity also experienced an increase in the amount of charitable contributions from individuals, corporations and special events.

The charity and myself were honored with the prestigious George Washington Medal. This national ward was presented by the Freedom’s Foundation at Valley Forge on November 18, 2000 at Luke Air Force Base, Glendale, Arizona.

This year the organization continued to receive more outside financial contributions and, again, received more support through the sale of our charity water at Sun Devil Stadium. The "Champions Program" was not very active after the passing of our beloved Michael in the fall off 1999. However, we have seen great results from the Interactive Educational Enhancement Program and the impact it has been having on the students of Carl Hayden Community High School. The charity’s long-standing tradition of service continued with the presentation of the 6th Annual Christmas Party with Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity at ASU and the Single Parents Association and the 3rd Annual Christmas Party in Flagstaff with the help of the NAU Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity brothers. The charity president and volunteers ended the year with its ever growing "Season of Giving" campaign by hosting the Annual President’s Holiday Celebration - Food and Toy Drive and the delivery of more than two thousand toys to many needy children throughout Arizona.

The year was fun and exciting and busier than ever. On the flipside, it was not without its hardships, to say the least. Weather played a major factor in several well-planned fall fundraisers that placed the charity into debt for the year. The following is EKC’s year-end status and the financial statement that is being reported to the Corporation Commission and the IRS on our 990 Form for fiscal year 2000.

Program Activity:

Interactive Educational Enhancement Program: This year has shown great strides for the portions of this program being conducted at Carl Hayden Community High School. This program has been on going and as of the end of the fall 2000 semester has gained results never imagined. A student poll conducted by juniors and seniors of the CHCH JAG program has shown a great change of attitude and dynamics over the past three years. Seniors were quoted as saying "Since their enrollment at CHCH as a freshman they have seen a night and day difference in the attitude of their fellow classmates and the reduction of problems on campus." This was a welcome word form many of the students we have been servicing.

Included in this Program is the Athlete Intramural & Mentoring Program administered by Greg Archuleta – Professional Soccer Player from the Arizona Thunder Soccer Team. Over the past six years, EKC has placed professional athletes in schools for one-time visits. This program began on the campus of Carl Hayden Community High School in the fall of 1998. In addition to this program, the students of JAG, DECA and Carrier opportunity organizations have logged latterly thousands of manner hour through out youth volunteer works programs. This program allows student of all ages to participate in various function throughout Arizona. Program Cost: $13,500.

Champion of the Year Program: To best serve the community, especially in the areas of education and special assistance, Every Kid Counts developed the "Champion of the Year Program." The name changed after the passing of our inaugural champion to the "Michael J. Arias Champions Program" in honor of Michael and his family. The program has seen little growth this year due to the difficulty of dealing with Michaels passing.

This program has been designed to feature young children who have shown great courage through very challenging times. The children are featured as part of our Every Kid Counts, Inc. retail water bottle label program. Program Cost: $3,200.

Single Parent’s Association Christmas Party: For the sixth year in a row, the brothers of ASU’s Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity along with their dates played host to 54 boys, girls and their parents for our December 9th Christmas Party. This party consisted of dinner, games and a special visit from Santa Clause. Each member from the fraternity and sorority contributed a gift for each child and spent the entire evening with that child to help ensure a special evening. This event was a major success and we are looking forward to continuing this annual event. (Rumor has it the adults had as much fun as the children). Program cost: $3,450

Drug Prevention Assemblies: This year we were able to visit a good number of Elementary, Junior and Senior high schools throughout the State of Arizona. Professional Athletes visited the schools with the messages of: stay away from drugs, the importance of a good education, setting goals, and making the right choices. Program cost: $3,200

Product Donations: In keeping with EKC’s tradition of providing other non-profits and youth groups with support, EKC provided nearly 10,000 bottles of product to other groups for their event programs or fundraisers. This includes the Phoenix Parks and Recreation, Single Parents Association, Arizona Youth Baseball, CASA and many schools and church groups throughout the state. Program costs: $3,324

Tickets to Events: This past year saw a great deal of support from many of the local professional sports programs. Through their generosity, we were able to provide thousands of tickets to underprivileged youth throughout the state of Arizona. Program costs: $3,100.

Equipment/Service Donations: Every year we seek to provide assistance in the way of equipment to schools and/or parks and recreation facilities as well as material support. This past year turned out to be very special one for our organization. EKC not only continued its traditional support of two Valley parks, we also provided materials, funding and service support to the Thomas J. Pappas School, Aid to Adoption of Special Kids, Gilbert Boys & Girls Club, Single Parents Association and Carl Hayden Community High School. Program costs: $9,300.

EKC’s Annual President Holiday Celebration – Food & Toy Drive: On December 16th EKC President welcomed more than 100 of EKC’s closest friends and family members to his home for this annual event that netted more than 2,000 toys for various needy children throughout the state of Arizona. All in all, we were pleased with the amount of food and toys. It was a fantastic event and we look forward to holding it again next year. Cost of Program: $1,100.

Northern Arizona Chapter:

Red Ribbon Campaign: Citizens Against Substance Abuse and Every Kid Counts of Northern Arizona - Flagstaff Red Ribbon Campaign against Substance Abuse: November 16th – 23rd

This program provides red ribbons and posters to children from grades K - 12. The ribbons signify that the student wearing it will remain drug free. The posters signify the partnerships of organizations and agencies working together and "Teaming up Against Drugs." This is the programs ninth year as part of the National Red Ribbon Campaign.

This event benefits more than 35,000 youth in Northern Arizona. This includes the communities of Flagstaff, Williams, Parks, Tuba City and Showlow. Every Kid Counts’ roll was very limited this year due lower than expected fundraising for the program. Program Cost: $1,317.

CASA Partnership: Every Kid Counts of Northern Arizona - Flagstaff is proud to be working closely with Citizens Against Substance Abuse on many worthwhile projects.

Children of Single Parents Christmas Event: Every Kid Counts of Northern Arizona - Flagstaff and Phi Sigma Kappa Christmas Party for Children of Single Parents: December 3, 2000

The Christmas party provided an opportunity for under privileged youth from all over Flagstaff to experience and enjoy some of the Christmas Holiday spirit. This program is a joint venture of EKC, the brothers of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity and their dates, Single Parents Association and CASA. This year's event included dinner, games and a visit from Santa Clause.

We invited 35 youth from Flagstaff to participate in this event and are pleased to report that the event went off without a hitch. The fraternity had a fantastic time, the parents had a chance to relax while their kids were being taken care of and, best of all, the kids had a blast. Program Cost: $2,700.

2000 CONTRIBUTORS

In 2000 EKC was honored to have many supporters of our charity programs. One of our main goals was to provide the most recognition possible for those who have chosen to be partners in our programs. The following are the various businesses that sponsored the charity during our 2000 fiscal year:

Major Contributors:

Crown Press: For the fourth consecutive year, Crown Press has participated in all aspects of the charity’s operations with support and donations well over $10,000 in printing. Mark Gefroh, a partner in the firm, first joined the Board of Advisors in 1996 and has been re-elected to the Board of Directors. His enthusiasm continues to be a great contribution to the communication and the development aspect of our programs. We appreciate his dedication and the support of his staff.

Pepsi Bottling Group: Jerry Roberts has always done what she could to support our charity over the past six years. This year, Jerry managed to convince the Pepsi Bottling Group to climb on board the Charity alliance in support of the Country Thunder Music Festival. PBG became one of the largest one-time contributor in the history of EKC with a donation of $14,000 which was shared by four other Valley charities. We appreciate you support and dedication to all our community’s youth.

Parties, Picnics & Parties: One of the largest contributors of financial and material support for not only our charity, but for many other groups as well. The owner Ken Wood continues to provide opportunity to assist others throughout Arizona. Through his support Ken has allowed EKC to develop our youth works and volunteer programs while raising the necessary funding to support out programs. This past year, Ken presented EKC and Kidco with the opportunity to run the Sunbelt Special Events Company to raise even more funding for our charity. Thanks Ken!

Sam’s Club: Gaspar Marta has continued to be a great help in the development of our program as well as developing new relationships with other kid’s programs. We are greatly appreciative to Gaspar who was appointed to the Board of Advisors in the last quarter of our 2000 fiscal year. Many of the Sam’s Clubs throughout Arizona continue to participate and remain a large part of many of our charity events.

Arizona Rattlers, Arizona Thunder Professional Indoor Soccer Team, Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Coyotes and the Phoenix Suns: All these professional teams continue to help support the efforts of our charity by providing tickets, funding, memorabilia and player and coach support throughout the year.

Ryder Transportation Services: Ryder has been providing truck services to support our ASU Water Program for the past five years. Ryder has provided their trucks to EKC for low mileage and gas fees, with no cost on the rental if returned within three hours.

Fast Signs @ 32nd Street and Indian School Road: Ross Meager and his staff continue to provided a great deal of support by donating, at or below cost, all of our banners and signs. For this, EKC is proud to have them as a major partner in our organization.

Bryan Media Group: A special thanks to Steve Chanen for his dedicated service not only as a Board Member, but for all is support during our EKC Celebrity Golf Tournaments. Steve has introduced many caring individuals to EKC and goes all out in the promotion of the charity and our tournament. Thanks to Steve and his great staff.

Sedona Bottling Company: Again in 2000 the water label took on many new looks from the ASU Sun Devil Stadium to the Water Club program. The label continues to have a colorful look to it as well as the logos of companies that donated money to help in our charity’s programming. We are in our sixth year working with our water manufacturer, Sedona Bottling Co. (Thanks to Dan, Pat, Al & Dennis). We greatly appreciate the support that Dan and the Sedona Bottling Company has provided over these developing years.

Fine Host Corporation: The Every Kid Counts water program has made it through its fifth straight year thanks to the Fine Host Corporation. It was not as big as last years; however, it came very close to reaching the 10,000 cases sold for the previous year. The weather in October halted the sales from breaking another record. In addition to the water sales, Sue and her staff proudly supplied the food for our Annual Toy Drive Gathering. We appreciate Sue, her staff and the Fine Host Corporation’s dedication and support of our organization and our community’s youth. We look forward to yet another productive season.

Ramirez Roofing Incorporated: President and owner Eddie Ramirez and wife Linda continued to be a large part of our charity program this past year. Ramirez Roofing provided $4,700 in corporate donations (label sponsorships) as well as $1,500 in purchases of the EKC water and continues to accompany Crown Press as a fixture on the ASU Sun Devil Stadium Water Label. We greatly appreciate the dedication that both Eddie and Linda provided not only to our program but to other youth organizations as well. They are definitely heroes of our community.

ABC Channel 15: This past year, ABC15 provided a great deal of public information broadcasting for our charity through their Holiday of Hope campaign. They also sponsored the EKC Arizona Water Label. Morning Anchorman Craig Fouhy joined the EKC Board of Directors in late September. ABC 15 was also the only station throughout Phoenix to cover our annual Toy Drive. Thanks again ABC 15 for your support and a job well done.

Arizona Major League Baseball Alumni Association: Many of the members have been very generous in their support of our organization. For the past six years they have been involved in all of our golf tournaments, they have donated funds to help Carl Hayden Community High School and memorabilia and financial assistance for our fund raising events. A special thanks to Lou Klimchock, JayD Schlueter, Robin Yount, Bert Campaneris, Ethan Blackaby, Jim Cox, Jim Umbarger, Ken Rudolph, Byron Browne and many others. We appreciate their dedication and support to our community’s youth.

American Golf Company, The Pacioni Family, Preferred Chiropractic, Alaska Airlines, Employee Service Management (ESM) and Yoshi’s Restaurant: Individually helped make the 2000 Season of Giving a huge success by collecting over 2000 toys that were distributed throughout the Valley to underprivileged youth of all ages and back grounds.
