Every Kid Counts was granted it’s 501 (c) 3 status on April 10 1995. 501(c)(3) is a tax law provision granting exemption from the federal income tax to non-profit organizations. There are different classifications and EKC is a public charity, identified by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as “not a private foundation,” normally receives a substantial part of its income, directly or indirectly, from the general public or from the government. After a 5-year ruling period EKC had demonstrated that it met the criteria to sustain its non-profit 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt status as a publicly funded charity.
